A-Z glossary of PageSeeder concepts

Version

A version is a “named” snapshot of a single document. A name can be any of the following:

  • number – 1.1
  • date – 2019-08-29
  • free text – First Draft

and it might be complemented by a text note and/or labels.

The version only includes local content, not transclusions. A collection of documents can be “versioned” simultaneously and with the same name, but any version applies to only a single document.

Minor and major versions

Versions to be categorized as “minor” or “major”. This allows for the flexible management and release of documents. Major versions might be used as the trigger to publish externally but minor versions might be for internal review. For example, if the export ANT task version attribute is set to 4.0, then content created after 4.0 won’t be exported. This can prevent content being prematurely released.

Bulk versioning

A feature that allows a version to be set for an entire tree, or sub-tree, of documents in a single action.

For more information, see batch processing.
