# Search facets

Typically a [property value](../../psml/elements/element_property.md) or a [label](object_labels.md), facets work best when they are consistently applied to most of the documents in a collection. For example, if most documents include a property of  `"city"`, the value of that property can be used to navigate or categorize documents in the collection.
