# Moderator

A manager who can accept or reject memberships and comments.

A moderator is a particular [role](role.md) that gives the responsibility to moderate comments and memberships to a member of the group.

A moderator has the same permissions as a [manager](manager.md), except they are emailed:

- Comments for approval before they are inserted.
- Membership requests.

> **Note:** There can only be one moderator in a group.

## Comment moderation

When enabled, the moderator receives an email link to either accept or reject comments before they are made available to the group.

> **Tip:** This is typically used when comments can be posted by non-members such as when the group is accessible to [public](group_public.md).

As a manager, you can enable comment moderation from your group configuration:

1. Go to [group configuration](group_config.md) from your **group dashboard page**.
2. Expand **Advanced options**, go to the **Comments** section.
3. Select one of the Moderate options from the **Comment moderation** drop-down menu.

## Memberships moderation

When enabled, the moderator receives an email link to either accept or reject a request from pending members to join the group.

Managers can enable membership moderation from your group configuration:

1. Go to [group configuration](group_config.md) from your **group dashboard page**.
2. Expand **Advanced options**, go to the **Members** section.
3. Select the **Moderated** option from the **Joining** drop-down menu.
