# Folder

As a term, ‘folder’ can be used in multiple contexts including the following:

- When referenced as the object of a host operating system, ZIP file, or programming tool such as Ant, a PageSeeder folder can usually be thought of as part of a conventional, hierarchical directory structure.
- From a [user](/reference/glossary/member.md) perspective, several folders are created by default each time a [group](/reference/glossary/group.md) is established:

  - `[archive]`
  - `[attachments]`
  - `[documents]`
  - `[images]`
- For developers, it is critical to understand the server, project and publisher folders of:

  - `[template]`
  - `[weborganic]`
- As a PageSeeder [XLink](/reference/glossary/xlink.md), folders act as qualifiers for content, not only by categorizing files but by providing a mechanism to [share](/reference/glossary/sharing_document.md) [documents](/reference/glossary/document.md).

## Folder name restrictions

The folder name has the same restrictions as [filename](/reference/glossary/filename.md) and folder title must not exceed 250 characters.
