# Document type

In PageSeeder, a document type can be compared to a ‘template’ in Word or FrameMaker. Document types are used to customize aspects of the content such as:

- Content structure, presentation and editing interface.
- Location and naming of documents.
- Constraints and validation of content.
- Any special import / export processing.
