Installation Instructions for Oracle
PageSeeder has been deployed on Oracle with zero problems in the past. However, due to lack of demand, the current version of PageSeeder has not been tested with the latest version of Oracle. We have left this documentation on the site in case it helps anyone but be aware that it is not current.
Please let us know if there is specific interested in Oracle support. We have done some limited testing with the Fusion (Weblogics) infrastructure and would welcome the opportunity to refresh PageSeeder's support for Oracle's environment.
This document assumes that the Oracle database is already installed and where it is version specific, it is specific to Oracle 9.
Locate Oracle JDBC Driver
Due to a problem with the JDBC driver that comes with Oracle 9, it is required to download the ojdbc14.jar JDBC driver for Oracle 10g, from the Downloads section of http://www.oracle.com . Ensure that this file can be located before starting the PageSeeder installation.
PageSeeder will perform the rest of the database setup automatically as part of the Setup process using the default settings below. However, these should be reviewed by the DB administrator, who can, if required, execute these commands manually using settings appropriate to the database usage.
Creating Database (not required for standard install)
These instructions are a step by step guide to creating the PageSeeder database on Oracle 9. They assume that Oracle is already installed and a standard 'General Purpose' database instance with USERS and TEMP tablespaces has been created. As stated above, this is not required for a standard install.
- Start the Oracle SQL Plus application.
- Login with username system and the system password or use an account with equivalent rights for the intended database.
- Type the command below and press Enter. Substitute a password for
<password>(this is the password needed to enter in the PageSeeder Setup). If a standard 'General Purpose' database is not being used, substitution of tablespaces for users and temp may be needed.
CREATE USER pageseeder IDENTIFIED BY <password> DEFAULT TABLESPACE users TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp QUOTA unlimited ON users;
- Now type the following and press Enter:
GRANT CREATE SESSION, CREATE CLUSTER, CREATE ANY INDEX, CREATE SEQUENCE, CREATE TABLE TO pageseeder;
Deleting Database (not required for standard install)
To delete the PageSeeder database, login to SQL Plus as above and then enter the command:
DROP USER pageseeder CASCADE;
To re-create the database, start from step 3 of the creating database process.
